"AI psychosis" is one of those terms that is incredibly useful and also almost certainly going to be deprecated in smart circles in short order because it is: a) useful; b) easily colloquialized to describe related phenomena; and c) adjacent to medical issues.There's a group of people who feel very strongly any metaphor that implicates human health is intrinsically stigmatizing and must be replaced with an awkward, lengthy phrase that no one can remember and only insiders understand.

One thing we know about the mass tech layoffs attributed to "AI" is that they follow a trend of mass tech layoffs that firms were formerly forced to admit were the result of their businesses contracting sharply after the lockdowns ended, when users didn't need nearly so many cloud services. By blaming the continuing layoffs on "AI," companies whose business continues to contract can tell investors that they are on the bleeding edge, not the contracting tail. 1/

Hey #Ubuntu people, I've got a UI question.

When I mouse over to a small UI element (e.g. the "Add content warning" button in the Mastodon post composing form) and then move my hand minutely to left-click it, the cursor often jiggles off of the target. This also happens if I remove my hand from the trackpad, mouse or trackball preparatory to clicking.

Is there a UI setting or add-on that addresses this? It's driven me crazy for years and I can't be the only one.

"Minimum wage" is one of those odd concepts that *seems* to have an intuitive definition, but the harder you think about it, the more complicated it gets. For example, if you want to work, but can't find a job, then the minimum wage you'll get is zero:

We should not tolerate secrecy in how our digital infrastructure works, either. After all, a modern building is just a fancy casemod for a bunch of computers. Well, here's a new accursed UI pattern. When you try to book a flight on Chase rewards and key in the exact code for the airport you want to go to, it suggests a bunch of non-matching airports, and puts the exact match like 10 options down.
